Ethiopian Airlines: An Emblematic Figure in the Robust Franco-Ethiopian Relations

The recently held second edition of the Europe-Africa Forum in Marseille, organized by La Tribune and La Tribune Afrique, served as an excellent platform to highlight the strengthening socio-economic, cultural, and political collaborations between France, Africa, and Europe. As part of these proceedings, the significant contribution of Ethiopian Airlines in fostering French-Ethiopian connections took center stage.

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s biggest airline company, has indeed established itself as a critical player in the Marseille Provence territory’s economic development. Following the opening of its office in Marseille, the airline company launched a route in 2019 connecting Marseille Provence Airport with Addis Ababa’s international airport - the most active hub across the African continent. This has provided significant impetus to passenger traffic, freight movement, and business relations.

With thrice-weekly flights generating a new stream of passenger traffic, Ethiopian Airlines has seen a threefold increase in its figures since the service’s inception, with an annual traffic volume exceeding 30,000 passengers. In a statement during the Europe-Africa Forum, Jalene Regassa, the airline’s Director and Sales Marketing Head in France, stated, "Since our opening, we have tripled our figures. During the Covid period, we were able to maintain the freight necessary for the supply of goods in the territory. This line facilitates cooperation with Africa. Today, our activity is flourishing."

The Franco-Ethiopian relations, marked by mutual respect, shared interests, and collaboration, continue to thrive in various sectors, with Ethiopian Airlines serving as a pillar of these connections. Its commendable efforts are not just an example of a successful African enterprise but also a testament to the productive interplay between French and Ethiopian interests. The French Embassy in Ethiopia, alongside other key stakeholders, is committed to fostering and supporting such successful partnerships, reflecting the shared vision of progress and prosperity for both nations.
