Visit to Inter Aide’s projects in Southern Region [fr]
The Ambassador of France, Brigitte Collet, went to the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) from April 8th to April 10th, 2016 to visit several projects implemented by the NGO Inter Aide, accompanied by its Director for Ethiopia, Agathe Martineau.
The mission began with a tour of farming projects. Through structures that combine soil conservation and fodder production, Inter Aide manages to improve the living conditions of farmers. The delegation met with members of a traditional association, Iddir, which manages the implementation and maintenance of these structures.
This mission was also an opportunity for meeting the head of the reproductive health project. This project aims at promoting responsible parenthood through trainings.
The mission ended with a visit to several water points of Patata network supplying 12,000 families thanks to 36 water points and 40 km of pipeline. This tour also enabled to discuss with committee members who manage the water points, with federation committee members and with beneficiaries.
Inter Aide is a French NGO working in Ethiopia since 1987. Its approach seeks above all to meet the practical needs of local people and involve them both in the preparation and in the management of the projects. This approach explains the high quality, sustainability and effectiveness of its projects and their local ownership by the beneficiaries.
In Ethiopia, the longstanding NGO is supported by France’s public institutions such as AFD (Agence française de développement) or water agencies (Artois-Picardie and Seine Normandie) and via local authorities, the city of Paris, for instance.
