Visit of refugees camps in Dollo Ado

The First councillor and the Consul went on April 2nd and 3rd 2012 to Dollo Ado (Somalian border) to visit refugee camps managed by the Ethiopian authority ARRA and the United Nations refugge agency (UNHCR). About 150.000 refugees live in five camps settled around Dollo Ado. The representatives of the embassy noticed the scale of the international community’s realizations which allowed to face within one year an increase of more than 130.000 refugees, in a region particularly difficult to access. Having managed for months an emergency situation, the managers of camps work henceforth to improve durably the living conditions of a population which cannot return credibly in the short term to Somalia considering the insecurity which continues to reign on the other side of the border.

This visit also gave the opportunity to meet French NGOs which work in these camps (Action contre la faim, MSF) and French citizens committed in the humanitarian aid.
