Visit of a parliamentary delegation (May 9 to 11)
A delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, led by its President Ms. Marielle de Sarnez, Member of Parliament for Paris, and composed of Mr. Didier Quentin, Member of Parliament for Charente-Maritime, Mr. Christian Hutin, MP for the North, and Marion Lenne, MP for Haute-Savoie, traveled to Addis Ababa from 9 to 11 May 2018, to hold various meetings at the African Union and with the Ethiopian authorities.
Within the African Union, the discourse focused particularly on conflicts, migration and partnerships of African Union with the rest of the world. They were also an opportunity for the delegation and for its interlocutors, to reaffirm the importance of the relationship between France and the AU and the need to further deepen this cooperation.
The issue of relations between the EU and the AU was discussed during a luncheon with a group of European ambassadors to the AU, while la Francophonie was the theme of a dinner organized with the members of the office of the group of French speaking ambassadors.
The delegation also met the Secretary of State for Political Affairs at the Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Ms. Hirut Zemene, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tesfaye Daba, as well as the Franco-Ethiopian parliamentary friendship group, in order to discuss various bilateral and international issues of common interest, to recall the seniority and richness of the links that unite France and Ethiopia and to insist on the interest of parliamentary diplomacy as a vehicle for strengthening relations between our two countries.
The visit also allowed the delegation to exchange at the Alliance éthio-française with several alumni of the Lycée Guebre-Mariam on their vision of Ethiopia and the challenges that lies ahead.
