The French Development Agency at the forefront in supporting the Ethiopian public and private sectors
On 11th and 12th October 2017, two technical workshops were held at the Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa, in the context of the 20th anniversary of the French Agency for Development (AFD) presence in Ethiopia. The organization was made in partnership with the Ethiopian Development Research Institute (EDRI).
The workshops addressed the topics of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and of the Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOE). Over the two days, they gathered more than 80 International; Ethiopian and French experts in order to share experiences on PPP development in Ethiopia, and opportunities in some key sectors such as energy and transport.
At a time when Ethiopia is about to vote a Public-Private Partnership framework to allow private sector participation in the infrastructure development, AFD offered its support through this workshop by mobilizing its expertise and some key French players involved in the implementation of PPP projects.
AFD group, including its subsidiary PROPARCO, has a wide range of experience in PPP projects financing all over the world, and shows a strong interest to support the development of such projects in Ethiopia.
AFD is also one of the few lending partners at the forefront in non-sovereign financing for State-Owned Enterprises (SOE). In Ethiopia, the Agency has already financed Ethiopian Airlines for up to 100 M EUR (2.7 Bn ETB) for the construction of its standard of art cargo terminal and Aviation Academy.
