Support for WFP supplementary Food aid Programme
In March 2010, Mr. Jean-Christophe Belliard, Ambassador of France to Ethiopia and Mr. Mohamed Diab, Representative of the United Nations World food programme (WFP) in Ethiopia, signed a memorandum of understanding to support a supplementary programme of food aid to vulnerable people, in particular women and children.
The French financial contribution of more than one million euros, will make it possible for the WFP to distribute about 1,300 tons of food and provide nutritional support for almost 26.000 children of less than 5 years of age and expectant or nursing mothers with moderate malnutrition.
The WFP supplementary food aid programme aims to provide an integrated response to the problem of malnutrition in Ethiopia. The Horn of Africa country is facing food insecurity. The initiative provides food enriched in micro-nutriments to more than 1.2 million malnourished people, expectant and nursing mothers and children of less than 5 year of age
Since 2005, France has contributed over 5 million euros to WFP operations in Ethiopia.
