Statement on biodiversity

On 13 March, the French Embassy in Ethiopia and to the African Union signed a convention with the Center for Environmental Studies at Addis Ababa University in order to conduct a biodiversity assessment on the land occupied by the Embassy in Entoto, north of Addis Ababa. In a rapidly expanding agglomeration where housing is becoming denser (Ethiopia is one of the world’s fastest growing countries in terms of urban population and Addis Ababa’s population could double over the next 25 years), this park represents a significant reserve of undeveloped space and biodiversity. This assessment will be conducted by several students from the Center for Environmental Studies, who will identify the animal and plant species present within the Embassy Park.
