Ms Dlamini-Zuma, guest of honour in France
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Pan- African Women’s organization (PAWO), at the UNESCO, Ms Dlamini-Zuma went to Paris for a two-day visit. She met the President of the Republic, M. Francois HOLLANDE and the Minister of foreign affairs, M. Laurent FABIUS.
Challenges of development that the African continent is facing have been high on the agenda of the discussions between Laurent Fabius and Ms Zuma.
France supports the aim of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to extend the priorities of the African Union to development issues : food security, exploitation of mining ressources for the benefit of local communities, health, youth training, the role of women.
The situation in Mali and the role the African Union can play in this issue have also been discussed. France and its european partners are willing to support the efforts of the African union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to adress the ongoing crisis in this country.
France is convinced that the African union is a key player and will become even more essential in the coming years, especially regarding Peace and Security issues.
