Franco-German Week in Addis Abeba

On 22 January 1963, the President of the French Republic, General de Gaulle, and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Konrad Adenauer, signed the Elysée Treaty. The reconciliation of the French and German peoples, officially launched by this Treaty, ended a centuries-old hostility and constituted a historic event for both peoples but also for Europe and the world. The established cooperation and trust have paved the way to building a united and peaceful Europe which was recognized by the Peace Nobel Prize 2012.

In the framework of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, the embassies of French Republic and Federal Republic of Germany in Addis Ababa have committed to organize a programme of events focusing on the theme of reconciliation.

On Monday, 11 March 2013 , a colloquium entitled :“Reconciliation for a Sustainable Peace. The Franco-German Experience : A Source of Inspiration for Africa ?”.
