Organization of the higher education system

Entrance to university is upon success at an end of studies examination (known as “the preparative”: two years training). Total marks obtained over the two last years of this preparatory cycle and of the marks obtained at the national examination of end of preparatory studies, which makes it possible - or not - for pupils to be registered at university, or otherwise. Their placement on the scale of the results determines the public university they are allowed to attend (and access to a particular subject will depend on marks obtained thus that places available).
Currently, practically all the pupils from the “preparatory classes” are accepted at the higher institution, the enrolment capacity more than was multiplied by ten during the last 15 years (from less than 3,000 a year enrolment 12 years ago, it risen to 73,000 /a year).
