Ceremony of May 8 at the Embassy of France in Ethiopia
Tuesday, May 8, a ceremony was held at the Embassy of France in Ethiopia to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany and the end of the Second World War.
For the first time, this ceremony was accompanied by the brass band of the Ethiopian armed forces, which played the Marseillaise and Last Post.
Students from the Lycee Guebre Mariam read the poem "Liberty", written by Paul Eluard in 1942 during the Second World War, (excerpt):
Sur mon pupitre et les arbres
Sur le sable sur la neige
J’écris ton nom
Et par le pouvoir d’un mot
Je recommence ma vie
Je suis né pour te connaître
Pour te nommer
After the speech of the Ambassador of France, a wreath laying ceremony was carried out ot the war memorial, located in front of the residence.
